Description

Ammonites are relatives of the nautilus and the cuttlefish. Ammonites would have thrived in the seas during the Dinosaurs, but some would have lived much earlier as much as 450 million years ago.  There would have been between 10,000 to 20,000 different species of ammonite, hence such a diverse fossil record. Having a perfectly symmetrical pair as large as these is very rare.
